Baked! Lays new design

I looked at the picture of the new Baked! Lays design and I knew exactly what types of people this product would be marketed towards without even reading the article. The color palette along with the change in typography make the healthier chips appear more like they belong in a health food store and less like they go with your typical junk food.

The websites I found this on, Brand New and The Dieline, noted that the company was beginning to cater their packaging towards women, and I think it’s going to be successful. Women most likely do most of the shopping for the family, so it is a good marketing idea.
The colors are described as “natural,” and I see what they’re saying. The colors are neutral, which pleases the eye. The yellow of the previous design was eye-catching, but I understand where they were coming from by changing it to fit their target demographic.

I prefer the new design over the old. Eating healthy is of interest to me, and that packaging reminds me of health food, but I know that it would be at a lower price. I think that the campaign/design will be successful if women feel the need to eat the fancy health foods but not at the fancy price. However, I know that the chips only look expensive, but they aren’t. I often buy health foods because they are organic and generally better for you because they are cheaper. If people did not buy healthier foods because they were too expensive, this could possibly be especially successful in this economy.
