Logo Systems Project

My logo is intended to convey professionalism through a mature, but creative design. The logo is also supposed to convey a mixture of diligence, creativity and a youthful urban tone. As an aspiring journalist, I want the logo to convey qualities necessary for good reporting, such as thoughtfulness, observation, empiricism, and analytical thinking. The logo is meant to be clear in it’s meaning, just as my writing should have clarity. Along with that general impression, the logo and stationary system are meant to convey attributes unique to me, such as organization, boldness, youthful creativity, and urbanism. Finally, the logo ties directly into my superficial qualities, such as the ‘R’ in my name and my distinguishing red hair.

My audience is future employers for internships and part-time jobs in print journalism. The audience is also sources, or other people I’d be in correspondence with as an intern.

The initial impression of my logo is the image of the thinker. With my name sitting under that image, I’m immediately associated with analytical thinking, diligence, and deliberation. The somewhat somber image is livened up with the red, which ties directly into the color of my hair, making the ‘thinker’ a bolder statement. The typeface used for my name is reminiscent of stencil or graffiti, which invokes an urban, creative, and more youthful feeling. The use of red and black make the stationary set bold, but the typeface I used in the title and address compliment the geometric design, while toning down the boldness of the color and logo. The stroke of the line on the stationary set reinforces the idea of a writer because of its calligraphic style. The clean geometric edges and simple placement of the logo are meant to balance its boldness, and also convey a mature and classic tone.

This is one of my favorite designs from class; the precision with which you chose a design and applied it to yourself is quite admirable. The color scheme works well for your message, and the simplicity combined with a deeper poignancy is basically the whole concept of the project. Actually one of my favorite aspects of the whole piece is the brush stroke you used for the divider between the words; I don't know why, but that really stood out to me for whatever reason. Wonderful job!
