Project: Wordmark & Resumé
02/04/09
Visual Message:
The resumé should exude an air of professionalism and maturity, but without being too rigid. It should show delicacy and elegance. It should transmit my efficiency and my desire to work, but in a soft, subdued way.
My wordmark, off to the left and rotated at 90˚, allows more white space around the sides and more room in which to play with my resumé. It uses the same typefaces as the rest of the page, but larger and with some slight variations to distinguish it.
Audience:
My audience, above all, would be the magazine industry—specifically, wedding magazines.
Design Strategy:
Since my wordmark reads from the bottom up, it leads the reader’s eyes to the education section, the start of the page (this is further aided by the lines coming out of my wordmark, which serve to signal the beginning and end of my resumé).
The education section is at the top of the page because I feel that currently, Newhouse says more about my abilities than any of the experiences listed. My experience section was listed in a mix of chronological order and order of relevance to the job I am applying to.
My typefaces, Kepler Std and Cronos Pro, complement each other because, even though Kepler is a serif and Cronos is a sans serif, both maintain a sense of simplicity. Kepler is more refined and traditional, while Cronos is lighter and more elegant. I used larger fonts and bold to emphasize information; on the other hand, I used italics for dates and locations because I didn’t think those were as important as the rest of the information.

i like how your wordmark works up the page like that, the contrast of gray and black and the fonts is really cool too, nice job!
I really like your resume. Since you have an interest in wedding magazine I think it was a great choice - you kept it very simple, clean , and classy, which I'm sure are all characteristics that would be beneficial in that industry. For my own personal resume I wasn't sure how I felt about putting my name down the side, but for you it works. I think the length of you names, and the fact that you incorporated your middle name makes it work. I was also a great idea to use the lighter and thinner fonts for you middle name it really softens your wordmark. I like the simplicity of you resume and your traditional choice of font - it really puts the emphasis on all of you activities and accomplishments, rather than using a distracting novelty font. Great job!
I really like this resume as well--because you put your name on the side you have more room to showcase all of your experiences. It's clean and professional.. I admire your work :)
