Elena's Resume

visual message

With my resumé, I wanted to convey a sense of professionalism as well as a sense of my personality. I mixed a script type with a serif font to convey this to my audience. I wanted my resumé and wordmark to be classy and professional, but not boring. This led me to incorporate the script of my first name into the first letter of my section titles. I wanted the arrangement of my information to be very easy to read and follow throughout the page, so I utilized tabs, bullets, italics and bold fonts to create hierarchy and order. Ultimately, I want my resumé to say Hire Me!

audience

The audience for my resume is an employer in the marketing or public relations field. I may also use this resumé to apply to the Syracuse University Athletics Communications department this spring.

design

My wordmark gives an impression of creativeness, elegance and professionalism. I choose to use two very different fonts in my wordmark. I chose a script font for my first name because that is how I write my name and how I think of it. My name comes from my Italian heritage, and I have always thought of my name as elegant and fluid, so a script seemed to fit the idea in my head. I balanced this with a serif font to convey a professional side that is appropriate for a job in my field. The two fonts are different, but complement each other well, and I carried the script throughout the body of the resumé in small doses.

I really like the combination between the script font and the serif font. The wordmark is really impressive-the font you found does look like handwriting but when contrasted with the gray serif font it still looks really professional. The way you were able to incorporate the script font even further with the section headers connects the entire resume and gives it a sense of fluidity. It seems like the script letters were made to fit with the section headers the way you arranged them-it looks great! One thing that made it difficult to read was the space between each section and the segments in each section; I felt that the space was too big between the individual pieces of experience etc. and didn't differ enough from the spaces in between each section. That just might be me though.

I think it was a great idea to use the script font for only the first letter of each of the sub headings. It makes it appear more creative, but it remains easy to ready everything. Your resume appears very clean and well organized. I like how the subheading and left-aligned and the body text is right-aligned to create an invisible line between the two. Since your wordmark is in the upper-left corner it immediately draws the attention of your eye. I like the size of the "E" in you word mark and how it is slightly larger. Using two fonts that were so obviously different, yet really compliment each other was a great idea!

I really like your choice of fonts that you used and the way in which you used them. I appreciated that the handwriting adds a personal touch while still managing to remain professional looking. The fact that you incorporated it in your section headings was a nice detail that adds to the cohesion of your work. The body is very organized and clean looking as well. You use line and balance very will, which achieves a nice visual path for the viewer. All in all, great job!
