Katie Welsh's Resume

Visual Message:
My resumé is designed in a way to project my professionalism and organization to my potential employer. The wordmark is not too elaborate so it emphasizes my name, but not in a distracting way. The various shades of grey used on the page give the resumé dimension, and repeating the font from the wordmark in the section headings pulls the different areas together. The fonts are easily read and not distracting from the information I’m trying to convey to a potential employer.

Audience:
This resumé was meant for employers in the newspaper or magazine industries and is organized that way. The legibility and lack of overly creative type styles will allow me to use it for potential psychology employers as well.

Design Strategy:
The word mark is large enough so that it immediately grabs the employer’s attention at the top left corner. The type used for the wordmark (Bauer Bodoni Std 1) is one that is commonly associated with magazines so it connects on that level. The text font is Book Antiqua, which complements the wordmark because it is easily read in the large quantity that it is used. Neither typeface is script, or another type of informal type so they work well together on the resumé.

Your wordmark is well constructed and placing katie above the wel in welsh gives it a nice touch. I also like the fonts, it reminds me of a typeface you would find in a fashion magazine.

I really like the way you fit your first name Katie from the “W” in welsh to the “L” in Welsh. The “L” creates a natural barrier and it looks great. The two gray lines framing your Wordmark and leading into your resume is a really nice touch. I like how your text is somewhat centered and the greater white space on the left creates a nice balance with your Wordmark.
