Visual Message: The design I chose for my resume is intended to convey clarity above all else through a clear hierarchy of what I believe to be my most hirable qualities and experience. The wordmark is meant to convey a message of creativity and individuality, without being too distracting from the content. I also wanted the resume to be reminiscent in some way of print journalism. The workmark is meant to convey a youthful, but clean and professional tone. The clean sanserif body font balances the wordmark, which is curvy and quirky. The workmark font and the section headings are reminiscent of the typewriter font associated with writer’s manuscripts.
Audience: This resume would be used for my summer internship applications to local newspapers, and NPR radio stations.
Design Strategy: My design uses typewriter font to invoke the feeling of an old school manuscript, thereby associating my name with writing. The wordmark initially looks youthful and creative because of the connected, curvy font, but it’s balanced by the clarity and cleanliness of Helvetica Neue. The resume conveys a clear hierarchy by the bold, eye-attracting workmark, and titles. Less important information, such as the section headings and dates are grayed so that they shrink into the background. In order to keep the resume simple and clear, white space was used to separate different information, and the natural lines of the wordmark serve to organize the body text. Each descriptive phrase was shortened to fit on one line for organization and consistency.

I like how you went with a typewriter font without making it look boring and old-fashioned like Courier. It definitely shows off more personality and still hints at your profession.
I really like how the curves of the wordmark were able to connect and make it feel updated, like you said in your rationale. Also, the contrast between such different typefaces draws a lot of attention, and I feel as if that would make it stand out. Not only did the gray of the dates and section headers draw attention away from those and towards the more important information, they also served as a way to add dimension. That really reinforces your personality, showing that your skills are dynamic. I really like it!
